Are you interested in computers and how they help make communication more effective? Are you a natural problem solver who can think on his or her feet, quickly finding and fixing problems? If so, an Advanced Certificate in IT Support might be for you.
IT Support Specialists must be able to communicate with their less computer-savvy colleagues in a clear, patient fashion. This requires good people skills and excellent communication abilities, whether it is in-person, over the phone or via e-mail.
About the program
The IT Support program at Delta College prepares you for entry-level employment in various areas within the information technology field. The Advanced Certificate is designed for those who already have a degree.
Students will configure, monitor, secure and administer network resources; as well as demonstrate technical skills and ability in analyzing, assessing, diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware, software, network and other desktop issues. Also, the IT Support program helps prepare students to test for the CompTIA A+ certification exam as well as the PC Pro certification exam. This certification makes students more marketable to employers.
Students, upon successful completion of the program, will be qualified as an entry-level IT Support professional. Many students transfer to a four-year university and Delta has several university partnerships in place.
Many courses are offered in the evenings to allow students the flexibility of maintaining full or part-time employment.
Because of the wide range of skills used in different computer support jobs, there are many paths into the occupation. A bachelor’s degree is required for some computer support specialist positions.
IT Support specialists work in all types of organizations. Because computer support is important for businesses, some support specialists might work nights or weekends.
For students who transfer and obtain a bachelor’s degree, the average national median salary is $50,380.
Demand for IT Support specialists is expected to grow 12 percent from 2014-2014. More support services will be needed as organizations upgrade their computer equipment and software.

“The IT instructors at Delta are knowledgeable and supportive. They have made learning challenging as well as enjoyable. The classrooms are well equipped for hands-on learning in the labs so students can practice the skills they learn in classrooms. I passed my A+ certification, which led to a job in customer support at a local Internet company, thanks to the instructors at Delta.
