Course DescriptionPrerequisite: ACC 214 and ACC 227 both with a minimum C grade or permission of instructor. Includes development of a career portfolio to illustrate professionalism and accounting skills. Uses technology to research and analyze topics including accounting careers, certifications, and job search preparation, as well as issues related to current accounting topics. Recommended to be taken in the last semester of a student's accounting program. (30-0)


Outcomes and Objectives

Demonstrate the use of appropriate computer resources to research and use information relative to the accounting profession.
Objectives:
  1. Design and use spreadsheets and accounting software to prepare and analyze accounting work.
  2. Demonstrate the results of research concerning accounting career options, certification, job search techniques, and tools using the Internet and other sources.
  3. Develop a career/learning portfolio and other job seeking-tools using appropriate technology.

Illustrate proof of learning based on the following Accounting Program outcomes:
Objectives:
  1. Prepare and interpret financial reports and statements at the appropriate level.
  2. Accurately analyze and record economic events that affect the business entity at the appropriate level.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to utilize accounting software and spreadsheet programs.
  4. Analyze federal income tax issues and communicate results effectively.
  5. Assist in financial analysis and managerial decision-making.
  6. Identify appropriate ethical behavior as it relates to accounting and basic internal controls.
  7. Identify and understand education paths, career options, and certifications in the accounting field.

Demonstrate professionalism appropriate to the accounting profession.
Objectives:
  1. Practice oral and written presentation and communication skills.
  2. Research opportunities and practice networking.
  3. Practice collaboration for projects and tasks.
