Course DescriptionFocuses on the problem of firefighter health and safety, and the design and implementation of a departmental safety program. Includes command issues, policies and programs addressing health and safety in emergency situations. Credit may be earned in either FST 300 or FST 302, 303, 304 and 305 combined. (15-0)


Outcomes and Objectives

Demonstrate selected skills in the design and implementation of a departmental health and safety program.
Objectives:
  1. Identify major causes of deaths and injuries.
  2. Discuss actions that can be taken to reduce the death and injury rate
  3. Identify the resources necessary to develop and implement an effective health and safety program
  4. Identify the key components of developing, implementing and managing a health and safety program
  5. State the benefits of applicable laws, standards and regulations
  6. Identify the major job-related health and fitness problems and steps in developing a health maintenance program
