Course DescriptionPrerequisite: ENG 253 or ENG 254 or ENG 256. Uses previous background in creative non-fiction, fiction, poetry or screenwriting. Practices style, voice, tone, vision, and other nuances in chosen genre. Uses peer critique, instructor comments, and extensive revision. (45-0)

Outcomes and Objectives

Generate original work in chosen genre.
  1. Write creative non-fiction, fiction, poetry, or script pages on a range of subject matter.
  2. Develop skills with style, voice, tone, and other nuances of the genre.
  3. Develop a vision of the world and express that vision in writing.

Revise and edit original work.
  1. Rewrite work in an effort to improve it.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of revision for the chosen genre.

Participate effectively in workshops and/or conferences with the instructor.
  1. Give and receive verbal and written responses to student work.
  2. Demonstrate a receptive, yet discerning, attitude towards feedback.
  3. Apply verbal and written feedback constructively.

Learn by reading contemporary or classic writers.
  1. Demonstrate ability to understand a contemporary or classic writer's craft and style.
  2. Experiment with another writer's craft and style.
